The publication traces locally situated research on the constructivist architectural heritage in Ekaterinburg in 2019. It provides insight into the interiors of historical buildings. Their multi-layered transformations over the decades depict the lapse of time and reveal a contradictory socio-political situation. As a facsimile, the publication adopts a notebook for complaints and suggestions that can still be purchased in stationeries today, once standard in state-owned companies and housing communities in the USSR. Organized by buildings into "cases", the documentation is deliberately subjective, with its layers conceived about one another—right down to the typography designed by Alexandra Korolkova. Considering recent events, "The Book of Complaints and Suggestions" has become a contemporary document that critically examines the complex history of the Soviet era and its aftermath.
